Lokeshwor Temple (Hiranyavarna Mahavihar)


People of thimi call this temple Ta: Baha and Lukuna Dyo. It is highly protected, using tha metal bars and locked up tightly because of the several attempts of theft. Inside the temple, there is a beautiful statue of
Lokeswor (Karunamaya) who is considered one powerfull Tantric daity.


Key Details About Thimi Lokeshwor Temple:
  • Location: Situated near the main road from Balkumari temple, Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur.
  • Deity & Significance: The temple houses a statue of Lokeshwor (Avalokitesvara/Karunamaya), often called Lashkar dyo, representing a blend of Hindu and Buddhist tantric traditions.
  • Vihar/Ta:Baha: Known locally as Ta: Baha and sometimes called Hiranyavarna Mahavihar, it serves as a central place of worship for the local community.
  • Features: The site is characterized by a Vajra (lightning bolt) in front, a small white stupa, and a, two-tiered roof structure.
  • Security: Due to previous theft attempts, the temple is tightly secured with metal bars and usually kept locked.
The temple is often associated with the legend of King Narendra Deva and is considered one of the holy spots for the establishment of Rato Machhindranath in the region.
