Lokeshwor Temple (Hiranyavarna Mahavihar)

People of thimi call this temple Ta: Baha and Lukuna Dyo. It is highly protected, using tha metal bars and locked up tightly because of the several attempts of theft. Inside the temple, there is a beautiful statue of Lokeswor (Karunamaya) who is considered one powerfull Tantric daity.

Key Details About Thimi Lokeshwor Temple:

Location: Situated near the main road from Balkumari temple, Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur.
Deity & Significance: The temple houses a statue of Lokeshwor (Avalokitesvara/Karunamaya), often called Lashkar dyo, representing a blend of Hindu and Buddhist tantric traditions.
Vihar/Ta:Baha: Known locally as Ta: Baha and sometimes called Hiranyavarna Mahavihar, it serves as a central place of worship for the local community.
Features: The site is characterized by a Vajra (lightning bolt) in front, a small white stupa, and a, two-tiered roof structure.
Security: Due to previous theft attempts, the temple is tightly secured with metal bars and usually kept locked.

The temple is often associated with the legend of King Narendra Deva and is considered one of the holy spots for the establishment of Rato Machhindranath in the region.

Biska Jatra is one of Bhaktapur’s most popular festivals. The aesthete considers it to be one of the city’s most valued festivals, with both cultural and historical significance.

People welcome Basanta, or spring, through this Jatra, which is held in mid-April. Biska Jatra is the largest jatra celebrated in Bhaktapur. It is celebrated for eight nights and nine days, is also known as the Chyacha Gunhuya Jatra, which translates to “eight-night and nine-day jatra.”

This jatra is also known as Bisket Jatra.

This might be the craziest festival that you have ever seen. The craze of people for this festival is just indescribable. Just to attend this festival, thousands of people from different parts of the country gather at Bhaktapur. There will be this many people that you can’t even surmise.

It feels like the whole city is desolate and all people are in the streets of Bhaktapur.

Biska Jatra In Bhaktapur

The Biska Jatra began in Bhaktapur on Tuesday.

The festival, which bears historical and cultural significance, is observed for eight nights and nine days.

On Tuesday, devotees pulled the chariot of the deity Bhairavnath in front of the five-storey Nyatapola Temple at Taumadi Square.

During the festival, the residents of Thane (upper) and Kwane (lower) quarters of the Bhaktapur Durbar Square tug the three–storey pagoda style chariot where the statues of Bhairavnath and Betaal have been installed following a worship ceremony before the beginning of the festival, to take it to their part of the neighbourhood.

The side able to pull the chariot to their quarter of the town will be viewed as the victors.

It took 9 days (a feet), 531 timber, 422 joints & 7 tons of reclaimed Sal Wood (local hardwood) to construct a wooden structure duplicate of the Changu Narayan Shiva Temple (Tear Temple), One of the Oldest in Nepal, during the World Wood Day 2016 Celebration in Nepal. The project demonstrates Nepal´s unique traditional system of wooden construction.
